According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, there are 11,842 lakes that are 10 acres or larger in size. If you count smaller bodies of water, the number rises even higher! Interestingly, neighboring Wisconsin actually claims to have more lakes, but they use a different, much smaller definition of what qualifies as a lake.
