Crater Lake in Oregon was formed about 7,700 years ago by the collapse of the volcano Mount Mazama. It reaches an astonishing depth of 1,949 feet (594 meters). Because it is fed solely by rain and snow, with no inlets, it is incredibly clear and blue.
