Robert Louis Stevenson, the author of Treasure Island, moved to Samoa in 1890 for his health. He built a beautiful estate named Vailima near Apia, where he became deeply involved in local politics and culture. Upon his death, Samoan chiefs buried him on top of Mount Vaea overlooking his home.
