Reaching a depth of 594 meters, Crater Lake in Oregon was formed around 7,700 years ago when the volcano Mount Mazama collapsed. Because it is fed entirely by rain and snow with no inlets or outlets, the water remains incredibly pure and boasts a brilliant, deep blue hue. A famous feature of the lake is the 'Old Man of the Lake,' a full-sized hemlock tree trunk that has been floating vertically in the water for over a century.
