Correct answer: Mauna Kea, Hawaii

Mauna Kea only reaches 4,207 m above sea level, but its base sits on the ocean floor almost 6 km down. From base to summit it measures about 10,200 m, well over a kilometre taller than Everest's 8,849 m. Everest just has the advantage of standing on a very high plateau to begin with.
