The West Indian flamingo, also known as the American flamingo, is the national bird of the Bahamas. Great Inagua Island hosts one of the world's largest nesting colonies of these birds, numbering in the tens of thousands. Their bright pink color comes from the carotenoid pigments in the brine shrimp they eat. Photo: JeffreyGammon, Wikimedia Commons, CC BY 4.0.
