Fireworks were invented in China around 850 AD when alchemists accidentally discovered gunpowder—a mixture of potassium nitrate, sulfur, and charcoal. They packed this powder into bamboo or paper tubes to create explosions that warded off evil spirits. Later, European artisans, particularly Italians, refined the rockets and introduced vibrant colors in the 1830s.
