Léopold Sédar Senghor served as the first President of Senegal from 1960 to 1980. Beyond his political career, he was an internationally acclaimed poet and cultural theorist who co-founded the Négritude movement, which celebrated African culture and identity. Remarkably, Senghor was also the first African writer to be elected as a member of the prestigious Académie Française. Photo: Dominique Roger, Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 3.0 igo.
