Oymyakon is a rural locality in the Sakha Republic, Russia, widely recognized as the coldest permanently inhabited place on Earth. Located in the Oymyakon Depression, it is home to roughly 500 to 800 residents. The village recorded a historic low temperature of -71.2°C in 1924.
