The Walls of Dubrovnik are a series of defensive stone walls that have protected the city, formerly known as the Republic of Ragusa, since the Middle Ages. These formidable walls, up to six meters thick and 25 meters high in places, stretch for nearly two kilometers around the Old Town. They have never been breached by a hostile army, earning Dubrovnik the nickname "Pearl of the Adriatic." Photo: Miroslav.vajdic, Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 4.0.
