While both the Jubba and Shebelle rivers originate in the Ethiopian Highlands, only the Jubba River flows reliably throughout the entire year. The Shebelle River often dries up in its lower reaches during periods of severe drought. Interestingly, the fertile valley around these rivers serves as the agricultural heartland of the nation.
