What color were carrots originally

Correct answer: Purple (along with yellow and red)

Wild and early cultivated carrots were mostly purple, yellow, or red. The bright orange carrot we know today was developed in the Netherlands in the 16th–17th century. Dutch growers selectively bred them (possibly to honor the House of Orange royal family). Orange carrots became dominant because they were sweeter, stored better, and looked more appealing.
