The Sarajevo City Hall, known as Vijećnica, is an architectural marvel built during the Austro-Hungarian period in a pseudo-Moorish style. Tragically, it was almost completely destroyed by shelling during the Siege of Sarajevo in the 1990s, resulting in the loss of millions of books from the National and University Library.
