Edward Ricardo Braithwaite was a Guyanese novelist, diplomat, and teacher whose experiences teaching in London's East End inspired his famous book "To Sir, with Love." The novel was later adapted into a highly successful 1967 film starring Sidney Poitier. Braithwaite also served as Guyana's first representative to the United Nations.
