Hilary Page invented the Kiddicraft Self-Locking Building Bricks in the late 1940s. LEGO purchased an injection molding machine, examined Page's designs, and improved upon them by adding the inner tubes for better clutch power. LEGO eventually bought the full rights to Kiddicraft in 1981.
