Budapest is famous for being formed from three distinct parts: Buda, Pest, and Óbuda. While Óbuda is an ancient part of the city, the 1873 unification specifically brought together the larger cities of Buda and Pest, located on opposite banks of the Danube River, to create the vibrant capital we know today. The iconic Chain Bridge, built earlier, helped connect them.
