King Argishti I of Urartu ordered the construction of Erebuni Fortress, which gave Yerevan its modern name. Today, the ruins sit on a hill in the southeast of the city, where archaeologists found a cuneiform inscription recording its exact founding date, making Yerevan older than Rome.

The Blue Mosque was built in 1766 during the Persian era and features a beautiful tiled dome and courtyard. It survived the Soviet era when it was used as a city museum, and was restored in the 1990s with Iranian funding, remaining a peaceful oasis in the city center.

Opened in 1933, the Yerevan Opera Theatre is officially named after the composer Alexander Spendiaryan. The building contains two grand halls: the Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet Theatre House, and the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall, making both composers central to its legacy.
