The Great Wall of China was built over many centuries. What was it mainly for?

Pick one

or
B: Keeping out raiders from the north

The wall was built along the northern edge of the old Chinese states and empires, to protect them against nomadic peoples from the grasslands beyond. Counting all its branches, it stretches about 21,000 km. Despite the popular story, you cannot see it from the Moon with your eyes alone: from there it would look as thin as a hair seen from 3 km away.

In the Chinese calendar, each year is named after an animal. How many different animals take turns?

Pick one

or
A: 12

The animals are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. A folk tale says their order comes from a great race across a river: the clever rat rode on the ox's back and jumped off just before the finish, so the rat came first and the ox second.
